Twitter SEO

Twitter SEO

Welcome again to another weekly blog post! Jeff Sunden here of Dunsen Design where we specialize in web design and online marketing. This week I'll be talking about how to generate more traffic from your Twitter account. Hopefully you will find the content useful and maybe shoot a little feedback. Without further delay, let's get started!

Choose Your Name Wisely

Use Your Real Name?

First things first, you need a name. The great thing though is it does not have to be your actual name here. Be creative and think of something keyword rich that relates to you. You have a 20 character limit so use sparingly. The other great part is that your "name" will be part of your profile's title tags and is highly searchable with Google.

Make that User Name Count

Like your name above, your username is also highly index-able and is located in the title tag on your profile page. This can be anything you want as long as it follows Twitter's 15 character count. It would probably be best to use at least one of your targeted keywords here. ;-)

Your Bio

Another great highly index-able area to implement those targeted keywords. Your bio can only be 160 characters with the first few words appearing in your Twitter description. This would also be a great place for a hook line. It would probably be best to use 1-2 keywords here.

Stay on Target

It's okay to have fun while you work but make sure you are getting done what you intend to do in the beginning. Stay on topic and use the targeted keywords for your advantage. Remember, your Twitter profile is just like your website, keep it focused on what you are wanting to achieve.

Lots of Links

Just like your website, you need lots of links going back to your Twitter profile when you can. Use strong keywords in your anchor text and tag yourself on well recognized sites to receive more authority  from search engines.

URL Back to Your Site

It is easy to get carried away talking about how you can get more traffic through your Twitter account so it is easy to overlook why we are doing this in the first place. To get more traffic to your site. Plug your web site in your profile page to convert searchers to visitors on your site.

Build Your Followers

Building a group of followers can be hard work and take time but hang in there, persistence is key. Each person following you means more internal links back to your profile and even that grand retweet from one of them. This is a great way to build recognition and compete with other Twitter topics of similar products or services. Go get 'em!

 Never Retweet!

Sorry, couldn't help myself here! Feel free to retweet tweets from others knowledgeable in your industry, this won't take any recognition away from you but show your knowledge comes from extremely reliable sources.

Hope this guide helps some of you with your traffic generation to your site. If you found this article helpful it would be great to hear some feedback!

What is Lead Nurturing?

Watering Money

An Introduction

Lead Nurturing is the process of taking the leads that you have acquired and cultivating professional growth between your company and each lead. Leads can come from your website, email or in-person meetings. Lead Nurturing usually starts after the first contact is made. Here we will be focusing on how to utilize your Email to your best advantage.  Doing so can benefit your business in terms of acquisition and retention of leads.

The Facts

- Only 25% of leads are legitimate.

- 50% of leads are not yet ready to buy.

- Using the technique of lead nurturing can potentially result in receiving up 4-10 times the number of response e-mails than only using regular e-mail.

- 25-50% of sales from leads go to the business that contacts them first.

Automation

One of the great benefits of using e-mail is that you can automate the entire process after you setup the content to use. The most time consuming part of E-mail Lead Nurturing is writing the copy itself. First, conceptualize what it is that you would like to do to generate leads.  To do this, you will need a white-list email company to blast (or send out multiple e-mails simultaneously) the automated emails out. I recommend MailChimp, Constant Contact or IContact. All three of these companies have a feature called "auto-responders" which you can use to send out automatic emails to any lead once their email has been entered into the database. You can also control the frequency of the emails being released.  As a business owner, I prefer IContact for two reasons.  First, I have been in business with this company for over a year and have been very satisfied with their reliable service.  Second, IContact is quite affordable, charging only around $10.00 per month.

How can this Help Your Business

Using lead generation today is a must for any business that is serious about avoiding lead waste. By using Lead Nurturing you can constantly follow up with leads who are not yet ready to buy and solicit a "yes", "no" or "not yet" response. The best part about Lead Nurturing is that the system is completely automated and able to keep up with your prospects.

Pitfalls and Traps #7

Hostage Taking and Hijacking

Pirate FlagHarr!  How does one's own site become a hostage or be hijacked?  Well, first we need to look at warning signs.  Some of the most important signs we have already discussed in previous posts.  Let us take a look back at what could come up as red flags, especially if combined with more than one:

  1. Security updates: You have no idea what software your site is running and your web designer / webmaster is not telling. No reason for this to be secret.
  2. Licensed & proprietary software: Your site is licensed for use or the technology is owned by someone else without your knowledge. Classic trap.
  3. Payment: You have paid in full and in cash (no contract).  They have your money, no agreements on paper, where is your leverage?
  4. Hosting:  Your site is hosted by a web designer / webmaster without it being part of a contract. No back-way out.  No idea what it could take to get out in one piece if need be.  They are in control and could demand expensive fees to keep you on their hosting.
  5. Contracts: No contracts at all, maybe a verbal agreement and handshake but that is it.  They have the power to deny and forget anything if they wanted to.
  6. Domains:  Your site's .com is registered under someone else and they refuse to hand it over.  This could be about the biggest red flag and indicator that you may be trapped.

It can take just one of these for your site to be taken hostage or hijacked,  but a hostage taker / hijacker typically will practice three or four of these if not more.  In many cases people are oblivious to being a victim  until it is too late.  The surprising part is the actual hostage taking can happen well before a website sees the light of day such as at the point your .com name is registered.  If you find yourself questioning your position on more than one, it might be best if you start digging around a little yourself.  If you couldn't tell from past posts, contracts are very important part when having a site produced and could save you a lot of grief in the long run.

Coming up in future posts, we will look at ways to possibly back-out of hostage / hijacked / trapped situations like these.
